The Santa Clarita Velo USCF 2702, chartered
in 1991, is a non-profit club whose goal is to promote all types of
bicycling in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Mt
Pinos Road Ride
- rescheduled
(due to rain
forecast) to Saturday Oct 11th.
The ride is open to
everyone. The ride starts at Flying J, elevation 3850', just off
the 5 fwy on Frazier Park Mtn Rd. You can ride as easy or hard as
you would like. There will be a water stop on the way up & food &
beverage served at the top, elevation 8400'.
Parking: Park at the Flying J in the North East row (see
Flying J pic). Flying J is off Interstate 5 at the Frazier Park Mtn
Rd exit. It is only 38 miles from Magic Mtn Parkway
Ride Time: 9:00 A.M.
The Ride: A 44 mile round trip ride that climbs from 3850 ft to
8400 ft. Starts at Flying J starting with a gradual 1000' climb to
Frazier Park & kicks up the last ¼-mile. The road continues 2 miles
with a very slight 300' climb to Lake of the Woods where there will
be a water stop. The road kicks up for about ½-mile to the
picturesque Cuddy Valley.

Cuddy Valley road
takes you to the base, 5800', of the Pine Tree covered Mt Pinos, and
this is where the fun begins.

The road twists &
turns for 10 miles around the mountain. This very scenic road never
gets steep, is surrounded by large pines, and blanketed with clean
blue skies. The road tops out at 8400’.
At the
Top:
Socialize; there will be food & beverage for everyone. I will also
have a bunch of jackets & sweatshirts in case it is cool. The ride
back is 90% downhill.
(Extras):
For those of
you that want to ride longer, there are multiple opportunities in
the area. You can ride to Pine Mtn Club & climb to Mt Abel 8200’,
or ride out Lockwood Valley Rd with several climbs, or add Frazier
Mtn for a 2 mile climb to the campground. Or you can ride home!!

The routes vary in length from 30-65 miles; consult our Ride Calendar for the specifics. The 18 mph pace
picks up at the city limits where the peleton divides into
ability groups. There is a meeting point halfway through each ride. We
all stop for traffic signals, flat tires and other mechanical
difficulties. Join us to improve your riding skills; experience a
paceline and echelon on some thrilling and enjoyable routes
in the Santa Clarita Valley and beyond...
